Principles of Organisational Resilience - a first draft
A refresh of The Principles of Organisational Resilience - a new draft
I’ve been working with Liz Pepler MIAB FRSA on a refresh of the Principles of Organisational Resilience and in the spirit of openness, and because all of us are smarter than one of us, we would love your thoughts and feedback. We established the original principles back in 2021 with Lloyds Bank Foundation England & Wales, and we’ve now got the chance to reflect on them, using all the things we have learned about Organisational Resilience in the last 4 years, and give them a refresh.
The foundations of organisational resilience are built around the ability to anticipate, prepare, respond & adapt to change. These principles are designed to help you explore your own organisational resilience through these lenses, so that you can:
Anticipate and shape your organisation’s possible futures
Prepare for financial uncertainties and opportunities
Respond to change with intention and control
Adapt with design and confidence
The refreshed principles are
- Purposeful - Holds absolute clarity of purpose and communicates value.
- Decisive - Keeps an eye on what is changing and is prepared to act.
- Collaborative - Collaborates and connects, acting as part of an ecosystem while celebrating its uniqueness.
- Intentional - Develops a flexible business model and knows when to say no.
- Diversified - Generates income from diverse, purpose-aligned sources.
- Protected - Plans for financial ups and downs and stays on top of the risks.
- Bold - Practises bold, effective governance and accountable leadership.
- Supported - Trusts, supports and empowers its people.
- Learn & adapt - Shares knowledge openly, listens and learns continuously. Stays flexible and experimental.
We have the Principles here in a document, along with a set of questions that help you to explore the principles and how they relate to your organisation. You can comment directly here or on the document.
And feel free to share, use or adapt these. There will be more resources in the coming months around this, all released via Creative Commons.
