The Cheese Toastie

An ode to simple and effective and the simple cheese toastie. Also, here's a new free tool that maybe will help with prioritising questions.

Every once in a while I have this feeling. I'm pretty sure everyone has this feeling. Jeez, fuck this, I'm going to give it up and...

What comes next after that is entirely personal. For me it generally revolves around food, more specifically a food truck. Maybe I'd make some mushroom and lentil spiced koftas in beautiful sourdough wraps. I've made them, they are quite frankly banging. I'm sure I could sell them, lots of them.

But mainly when I get to this stage I think I'll just start a cheese toastie truck. Simple, effective, pretty brilliant.

Do you want a cheese and pickle toastie? Bring your own pickle, we do cheese toasties. "But what if you just added...?." Nope, we do cheese toasties.

£2.50. A beautiful, simple, cheese toastie. Want 2? £5 then my friend. 3? Well, for you £7.50. Bring your own napkin and sauce.

Maybe that seems dismissive. I think it's just being clear on what you do. A cheese toastie.

And this thinking permeates my thinking about products. Can I make a cheese toastie? Something that just does the job, but nothing more?

Simple, effective. That's my vibe. And if I'm ever lucky enough, a sprinkling of spicy brilliance occasionally.

Which sort of gets me on to things I'm making at the moment. Tools that try to do one thing. And yes there is thinking behind them in how they 'could' be linked or at the very least the common thread of how they could be used together, but the main focus is on trying to solve one problem, and leave it at that.

One I've just pushed love is a question prioritisation tool, based on our Data For Action question based approach.
Starting with questions is something we've done with every project we've ever done. And it works. But we never had a simple way of doing the process in a digital way. And so we built one.

It does our process and nothing more. And you can use it for free. No sign ups, no pay walls. Open by Default.
